I have already shared in a previous text that I joined the World Council of Churches’ communications department almost two years ago. It marked the beginning of an incredible journey of reflection on what it means being a Roman Catholic Christian.
Finding a book about ecumenism from the perspective of the Charisma of Unity was a natural move for me. The Focolare Movement has a substantial influence on how I experience faith and celebrate the diversity of God’s Creation.
The book “My Ecumenical journey” gathers all the crucial elements addressed by Chiara Lubich in her journey towards understanding ecumenism.
Following the path of Chiara, I captured the importance of three pillars:
With these three elements, the global Christian community can walk together and make space for God to heal the past wounds and reveal a future towards a reconciled world.
God’s grace of unity within the different Churches is never a simple process. It demands openness and a personal commitment to an ecumenism of life, where we invest energy and time on finding elements that bring us together in the name of Jesus Christ.
The book “My Ecumenical Journey” allowed me to discover what inspired Chiara to emphasise the path towards Cristian unity as a crucial step, and perhaps a precondition, to a united world.
Accepting the limits and the slow pace of this process can enable us to continue to walk together and strengthen our connection in a world too affected by physical and spiritual walls.
In 2020 the Focolare community all around the world celebrates hundred years of Chiara Lubich’s life.
If there is a simple reason why the Focolare movement should still exist, even without the presence of its charismatic founder, it is the fact that its members have a profound hope in love and, with that, they aim to be bridge builders in a divided world.
In a particular period of history when Chiara’s message about unity seems even more crucial for the success of humanity, the members of the Focolare are called to continue to believe in love. A hope that starts with testifying, with a very humble and committed attitude, the grace of God’s love. This love is what gives us the strength to resist, to seek justice, to heal and to make this world a better place for the next generations.
Chiara Lubich was an ordinary woman with an extraordinary calling that brought together hundreds of thousands of people from different cultures, countries, races and religions. Her heritage is renewed every time the Focolare community reminds itself to be, first of all, ambassadors of love.
Queridos jovens,
Muitos de vocês já devem estar a caminho ou até já chegaram nas Filipinas para mais um Genfest. Essa grande festa dos jovens do Movimentos dos Focolares é historicamente um dos momentos mais celebrados e globalmente vividos pelos membros da Obra de Maria. Ainda mais este Genfest, o primeiro fora do continente europeu.
Eu, como vocês, me considero membro da “Geração Nova” mesmo se o tempo e as experiências que vivi (e os cabelos brancos acumulados no processo), já não me permitam dizer que sou tão jovem.
Entretanto, eu também tive o privilégio de viver essa experiência de doação permanente que vocês são convidados. Pude me maravilhar com as alegrias que as escolhas relacionadas à pureza, ao desapego, à abertura e principalmente à radicalidade nos faz sentir. Tive crises de fé, decepções com Focolarinos (lembrem-se de que eles são seres humanos), sofri com a rigidez da estrutura da Obra e não poucas vezes me perguntei se a o Movimento era mesmo o meu lugar.
O mais interessante é que tudo isso, sentimentos bons e ruins, e até mesmos os relacionamentos, passaram ao longo do tempo. A única coisa que ficou e que está viva em mim até hoje é a certeza de que não posso me contentar com migalhas, porque tenho uma vida só e que por consequência, preciso vivê-la bem.
Nos próximos dias vocês experimentarão na própria pele a certeza de que um mundo unido é possível. Encontrarão gente de todas as partes do planeta, farão novos amigos e perceberão que tem muita gente que acredita nessa “loucura da unidade” e que vive intensamente para concretizá-la no dia-a-dia. O risco, porém, é vocês não conseguirem construir uma ponte entre o que vão viver e o contexto onde vocês estão inseridos. O entusiasmo dessa experiência talvez faça com que não queiram voltar para o difícil mundo onde a unidade, a paz e as pontes ainda precisam de vocês para construí-las.
Vivam intensamente cada segundo dessa experiência para que fique uma marca em suas almas. Lá na frente, talvez vocês vão perceber que esses momentos de grande entusiamo nos ajudam a continuar fazendo as escolhas, as renúncias e os sacrifícios certos.
Com vocês, revivo as minhas esperanças de que juntos podemos escrever uma nova história e honrar o convite à unidade que herdamos de Chiara Lubich. Boa Festa
In uno dei congressi avvenuti a Roma, con la presenza di Chiara Lubich, la chiederono cosa sarebbe del Movimento dopo la sua morte.
Sono passati pochi anni dopo la risposta “Vi lascerò una gran quantità di materiali, ma non toccare il bambino” ed ora ci troviamo proprio in questo status di “orfani di madre” (scusatemi l’espressione).
Dopo il periodo di grazie post partenza di Chiara, in cui abbiamo potuto contemplare un ritorno in massa di tanti “spariti” dei momenti di diaspora Gen, comune nelle più diverse regioni, mi sembra che adesso comincia il momento di ripensare il nostro ruolo come giovani, nella costruzione e soprattuto nella manutenzione della vita – Gen – Focolari che abbiamo ricevuto dalla nostra fondatrice.
Chiacchierando con un’interna, sposata, ex Gen e sentendo molto di cui aveva vissuto le generazioni Gen precedenti (non troppo come i nostri volontari e popi…rsrsrs) mi sono accorto che qualcosa davvero non va bene.
In tanti regioni, e dico con lo sguardo specifico sulla mia São Paulo, viviamo, ora, un momento magico di attività al largo con i giovani, nostri amici (tante volte che non sono religiosi ma tutti sedenti di progetti sociali) e con la Chiesa locale. Però, questa spinta che va al di là, bisogna ritornare con la stessa forza, come un bumerang.
Qual’è la nostra preoccupazioni con i Focolari?
In quella chiacchierata con la ex Gen ne ho sentito dire che i Gen non visitano più i Focolari. Vanno li soltanto nei giorni di incontri, ma è sempre un passaggio in fretta. (Almeno con me è così)
Però, e tutti quelli che hanno fatto la Scuola Gen lo sanno, il Focolare è il cuore di GiM. Senza il focolare non c’è Opera di Maria e, in conseguenza, i Gen.
Si, la nostra vita è di continua e impegnativa donazione, abbiamo tanto da fare, specialmente all’interno dell’Opera, ma abbiamo bisogno d’avere nel cuore la necessità di costruire un rapporto stretto con i focolarini, per il bene ed il futuro del Movimento.
Abbiamo bisogno di assumere la nostra parte della responsabilità di costruire il GiM che sostenerà l’Opera post periodo carismatico.
Non cambia nulla restare ad aspettare l’iniziativa dei Popi, neppure l’ormai famoso “sentirsi bene per amare”. Il figlio è anche nostro!
Allora, sarà possibili continuare certi di che GiM sta a salvo, in quello stesso Focolare, “Lare di Fuoco”, da dove siamo stati generati.
